FILTERING SPAM IN YOUR SMARTERMAIL ACCOUNT
Basic Filtering | Intermediate Filtering | Advanced Filtering
Foreword:
Each word contained within an e-mail has a certain "weight" that is attached to it that designates the word's likeliness to be associated with spam. The weight of each word contributes to the weight of the e-mail as a whole. Typically, good e-mail has a total weight between 1-20, and the weight of spam e-mail will range from 10-100. Therefore, the optimum range for a weight-based spam filter is between 10-20. As you follow the steps below, choose a number between 10-20 (10 being the strongest and 20 being the weakest protection) to use for your filter that will best suit your needs.

Note:
Typically, good e-mail has a total weight between 1-20, and the weight of spam e-mail will range from 10-100. Therefore, the optimum range for a weight-based spam filter is between 10-20. That being said, although we recommend starting your filter out at a weight of 15, you can choose any number that you feel best represents your needs.
Whatever weight you choose, always keep an eye on your spam filter for the first few weeks after creating a weight filter to make sure that good e-mails aren't getting classified as spam.

| STEP VI: |
|
Add Content Filter
On this page you will designate what you'd like the rule to be called (in the field provided next to "Rule Name"), as well as choose what Smartermail will do with mail that matches the conditions set forth in the filter you've created. In our case, we've chosen to move the mail to the "Junk E-mail" folder. To do this, place a checkmark in the box next to "Move message to folder" then select "Junk E-mail" from the drop-down menu next to "Folder:" directly below.

| STEP VII: |

After making your selections, click the "Save" button at the top to save your filter & complete the process.
